Winter Wrap Up in Dartmouth

A warm welcome to our Winter Wrap Up from our recently opened boutique holiday cottage - The Old Wash House - in the heart of Dartmouth, and a reflection on experiencing our first winter season in Devon.

Cosy, fireside evenings, Christmas markets, candelit processions, the train of lights, fireworks, wonderful fresh seafood, glorious coastal walks, stunning sunrises and colourful sunsets over the River Dart are just some of the reasons why a winter holiday in this beautiful part of the world is a really great choice.

Dartmouth is a vibrant and delightful town in Devon's South Hams, and the winter season presents it in a different light to the bustling crowds of high season visitors during the summer months, who flock to the embankment, boat trips and nearby beaches. Although quieter, there is still plenty to be enjoyed in South Devon's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty as the clocks go back. A varied program of events continues in the town - including the Dartmouth Food Festival - and coupled with miles and miles of the South West Coast Path and some of the finest restaurants in the South of England, The Old Wash House benefits from having all these facilities on our doorstep for you to enjoy!

We have been busy ourselves at The Old Wash House (or TOWH, as we often call it). After our grand opening in June 2018, we have been incredibly popular, no doubt due to being in such a great place as Dartmouth, but also by accepting dogs as well as having a dedicated parking space at the cottage - which is incredibly rare in this historical, coastal town. But our visitor books bears testament to the fact that The Old Wash House is an exceptionally well appointed home from home, in a very convenient and level location in the heart of the town, and spotlessly clean. We booked out from our opening week right through Christmas and New Year.

Christmas guests were treated to a range of bespoke decorations, champagne and chocolates, and we loved making our own fairies and snowmen out of dolly pegs which we arranged on chestnut branches, displayed in a galvanised metal dolly tub to be in keeping with the "wash house" theme. And immediately after Christmas, we renovated both the Master King Bedroom's ensuite and family bathroom, where both were upgraded with digital showers and LED mood lighting including remote controls to adjust the colour scheme to individual taste. The family bathroom now includes a relaxing rainfall shower, too.

As winter turns to spring, the daffodils are out and the days lengthen, we are looking forward to another bustling season at The Old Wash House. We are fully booked until the end of September 2019, but perhaps you might like to experience winter at The Old Wash House for yourselves? You won't be disappointed. Wrap up, bring your camera and a zest for the great outdoors.
